The world after us: just arrived on Netflix, already a success

Coming this Friday 8 December on Netflix, the thriller The world after us directed by Sam Esmail went straight to first place among the most viewed films on the platform. It must be said that the feature film has all the ingredients to excite viewers.

The plot follows a family of New Yorkers who decide to spend a few days in a quiet suburb of the city, in a splendid villa that they have rented. Alas, these holidays that promised to be idyllic will turn into a nightmare when, in the middle of the night, the owner of the villa arrives accompanied by his daughter and announces that a large-scale cyber attack is paralyzing the country.

Without any means of communication, the two families will then have to face a threat that is inexorably approaching, forcing everyone to reconsider their place in this world on the brink of collapse.

Many details hidden in the film

Sam Esmail took great pleasure in including many hidden details The world after us, which allow us to better understand the story. This is the case, for example, of the name of the ocean liner that runs aground on the beach at the beginning of the film.

Another hidden detail is found in the painting found in the bedroom of the couple Amanda/Clay (played by Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke), and which symbolizes the fact that they find themselves gradually overwhelmed by the desperate situation in which they find themselves.

In this painting, in fact, we discover the sea and the horizon. At the beginning of the film the water is calm and the horizon is just beyond the bed frame. But as the feature film progresses, the surface of the water rises higher and higher, almost to the point of swallowing the protagonists.

The sea level in the painting reaches its climax in the frightening scene showing Archie losing his teeth. The frame is constructed in such a way that the upper part of the painting does not seem to give the impression that the protagonists are submerged in the situation.
