The Truman Show, a Peter Weyer cult film starring Jim Carrey, was released in our cinemas on Wednesday, after being screened at the Cinéma de la Plage in Cannes. The 75th edition of the festival also honored the film by shooting the final scene for its poster.

In the feature film, Jim Carrey is portrayed Truman Burbank, a man who leads a quiet and happy life. He lives in a small pavilion in the seaside resort of Seahaven. He travels to his office every morning as an insurance agent, from where he leaves eight hours later to return home to enjoy the comfort of his model home, the unmistakable good humor and mechanical smile of his wife, Meryl.

  • In the film, Truman’s boat is named Santa Maria after one of Christopher Columbus’ ships, which set out to discover America. Symbolically, this means that Truman is also going to conquer a new world when he wants to escape from the prison of television.
  • Dennis Hopper initially played the role of Christoph (eventually he was handed over to Ed Harris) before leaving the set for unknown reasons. The irony is that Hopper starred the following year on Ron Howard Live on Ed TV, which had the same theme as The Truman Show: Privacy Stir.
