New from Netflix, The World After Us is now available in the streaming platform’s catalogue, being as successful as other hits such as bird box (2018) and Don’t Look Up (2021). The apocalyptic film premiered shortly after a commotion over the death of Matthew PerryO Chandler Bing in Friends (1994-2004), and, coincidentally, brings a simple but important reference to sitcom Of success. In The World After Us, a family’s vacation in a luxurious home is compromised by a cyber attack, which causes a blackout on all devices. The situation gets even worse when two strangers appear at the door and they begin to notice that things are getting worse and the world is collapsing, with no possibility of salvation for the family and the rest of the population.
In the film, before they even begin to realize that there is something wrong going on, Rose (Farrah Mackenzie, Utopia), the youngest of the family, is running a marathon Friends. However, just when you go to watch the last episode, your tablet stops working.
Throughout the story, the girl becomes even more eager to find out what happens to her six friends from New York, because she says she cares about them. Tired of being cooped up, without news and unable to watch her series, she decides to escape, arriving at some neighbors’ house and finding a survival bunker.
Inside, the girl finds several DVDs, including the latest season of Friends, who starts watching immediately, determined to find out what happens to her friends in New York in the final episode, ending the film without any great answers about what really happened, who is behind the attacks or what happened to the population of the United States .
