New apocalyptic production from the streaming platform features Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke and Kevin Bacon in the cast
New from Netflix, The World After Us is now available in the streaming platform’s catalogue, being as successful as other apocalyptic productions such as bird box (2018) and Don’t Look Up (2021).
The film is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Rumaan Alamreleased in 2020, and is inspired by a supposed syndrome, called Havana Syndrome, which scared and influenced conspiracy theories in 2016. Understand:

In The World After Us, a family’s vacation in a luxurious home is compromised by a cyber attack, which causes a blackout on all devices. The situation gets even worse when two strangers appear at the door and they begin to notice that things are getting worse and the world is collapsing, with no possibility of salvation for the family and the rest of the population.
One of the “symptoms” of the apocalypse is the release of a deafening noise, which leaves everyone in pure agony, both humans and animals. In an interview with the Netflix website, the director and screenwriter of the film, Sam Esmailexplained how he thought about the sound and included it in the film inspired by Havana Syndrome:
“When I read that in the book, I immediately got excited and spoke to Kevin Buchholzthe sound designer I’ve worked with since the first season of Mr. Robot: Hacker Society“it started.
“Before we filmed any scenes in the movie, we were trying to adjust this sound. We took elements of Havana Syndrome, which is a mysterious sound that they still haven’t fully understood and that has caused people problems.”added Esmail.
Havana Syndrome began to scare people in 2016, after dozens of diplomats at the United States embassy in Havana began experiencing symptoms such as migraines, nausea, memory lapses, fatigue, dizziness and even hearing loss.
At the time, the former president of the United States, donald trump, even accused Cuba of being behind an attack against the North American country, but nothing was proven. In the following years, other cases were recorded in Vienna, Paris, Geneva and Bogotá, leading scientists to several hypotheses for the syndrome, including microwave radiation and pesticides. However, there is no definitive conclusion so far.
Still according to Esmailthe actors had not heard the sound until the time of recording, which resulted in a spontaneous reaction on stage: “I believe Julia was the first one to hear it. So when we get a close-up of her and that moment happens, we blast the sound and that was her genuine reaction.”revealed the filmmaker.
