The biggest box office hit of 2023, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie (starring Margot Robbie as the famous doll and Ryan Gosling as Kenny) grossed $1.441 billion worldwide.
This musical comedy like no other, adapted from the legendary toy brand Mattel, was even named among the 10 best films of the year in the United States by AFI. However, before it saw the light of day and was finally brought to the screen by the director of Dr. March’s Daughters, the Barbie project had long been in the upper echelons of Hollywood.
Amy Schumer was first offered the role by Sony Pictures, then Anne Hathaway was given the role. The latter – who was eventually replaced by Margot Robbie when Greta Gerwig took over the project (for Warner Bros.) – could have regretted not playing the legendary doll. But this is not so.
Indeed, as he recently stated on a podcast happy sad confusedThe American actor seems to find that the 2023 film is as perfect as it gets:
“What’s really great about what Margot has done Greta Ryan and America , hit the nail on the head. Hitting the nail on the head, they allowed the entire world to reach this level of ecstasy. (…) So I really think it’s a chance “he confided.
Anne Hathaway, full of praise for Margot Robbie’s performance, continues:
“Margot is just sublime, period. What she’s doing as a creative person and as a producer is so exciting and inspiring. (…) As a viewer and as a woman who has been in Hollywood from a young age, I am excited about the development .”
“If I believed that the version I was attached to could do that, yes, I might feel differently, but I honestly think their movie was the best version. So, to be honest, it’s very easy for me to just be excited. And happy . I’m also someone who likes to watch women destroy it.”
Could Anne Hathaway be joining the cast of Margot Robbie’s Greta Gerwig sequel?
