Flamengo 92 x 87 Hebrew Macabi

The first quarter of the match was very balanced. With two very well-matched defenses, both teams had to work very well on every possession to score. At the end of the half Hebraica were six points behind in the scoreboard, but a good series of plays by Flamengo, with three balls from the perimeter, not only recovered the score but helped the Rossoneri take the lead in the second quarter.

But this advantage was of little use to Flamengo. With a much faster game, Hebraica recovered better and in less than three minutes of play they scored 16 points and opened 9 points behind the Brazilian team. A triple from Maique and three free throws from Filipovity gave Flamengo hope again in the quarter, but Hebraica once again controlled the play and opened a 13-point lead before halftime.

The return of the break brought a game more similar to the first quarter. Macabi continues to take advantage of his plays, but Flamengo remains in the dispute, without letting the score slip away. But in the second half of the quarter the game changes completely: with two excellent plays from Gui Deodato and three consecutive balls from Scott Machado from the perimeter, Flamengo enters the rankings. Jordan Williams still scored two more points for the visitors, but Scott responded in kind and left the game with a point for the decisive quarter.

The final quarter was tense from start to finish, with both teams looking for the win. The first basket came just two minutes into the game, with Cuello from the perimeter giving Flamengo the lead, and the game took a slower pace. The two teams traded leads throughout the quarter and Hebraica entered the final seconds with a two-point lead. But in a nice individual play, Gui Deodato managed to draw a foul, scored two points on a free throw and guaranteed extra time for Maracanãzinho.

Extension

And extra time added a little more tension to a truly exciting game. With very few points in the last five minutes of the game, Flamengo remained at the top of the table. But with 49 seconds left in the game, Romero scored 3 points that put the Uruguayans ahead in the scoreboard. Cuello tried to tie the game on the next play and gave space to Gui Deodato to be decisive again.

In Macabi’s next possession, Gui stole the ball and left Jaú free to leave Flamengo with a two-point lead. After two free throws by the Uruguayan team, one of which was right-footed, Gui suffered a foul 9 seconds into the match, scoring two more points and leaving the score at 90 to 87. And in the final possession, on the last occasion of Hebraica Macabi, Gui Deodato appeared again to steal the ball, accelerate and score the two points that ensured Flamengo’s victory in the BCLA opener.
