Eight studios were vying for Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale’s next film, Best Enemies. In the end, it was Amazon that won the auction with a seven-figure bid. As stated DeadlineThis is one of the most expensive contracts of 2023.
This project is adapted from the book Best Enemies: The Last Great Spy Story of the Cold War By Eric Desenhall and Gus Russo, it tells the story of CIA agent Jack Platt – played by Bradley Cooper – and KGB agent Gennady Vasilenko – played by Christian Bale.
While sent on a mission, the two men form a friendship that transcends the conflicts of their countries.
The two actors have already shared the screen together in 2014’s David O. In Russell’s American Bluff. While a Top Gun director has yet to be announced, screenwriter Eric Warren Singer (Top Gun: Maverick) is in charge of penning the screenplay for the theatrical release.
Currently, Bradley Cooper’s name is making the rounds at awards ceremonies thanks to Maestro, the biopic he directed in which he plays composer Leonard Bernstein. The film is scheduled to hit Netflix on December 20.
As for Christian Bale, he is set to star in The Church of Living Dangerously, a thriller in which he plays an American pastor involved in a drug cartel.
