Google announced the arrival of Imagen 2, a new version of its AI capable of creating images, for Vertex AI customers
Generating images with artificial intelligence obtained a new reinforcement last Wednesday (13th), when the Google announced the arrival of Imagen 2. The technology that turns text into images is now available to customers of Vertex AI, the company’s professional (and paid) suite of AI creation tools.
The new feature allows Google customers to “customize and deploy Imagen 2 with intuitive tools, fully manageable infrastructure, and built-in security and privacy features,” explains Vishy Tirumalashetty, head of product, generative media and cloud AI at Google.
Imagen 2 uses Google DeepMind technology, the giant’s AI division, and promises “a significant improvement in image quality” as well as “a series of features that allow developers to create images for specific uses”.

What does Image 2 do?
The new technology updates the feature originally launched by Google in May 2022 and brings some highlights among its features:
- Using “natural language” text commands to create photorealistic, aesthetically pleasing, high-definition images;
- Rendering text in multiple languages to create images accurately;
- Creation of logos for products, companies and websites in different formats: realistic, photographic, abstract, typographic;
- Evaluate a photograph to create captions (for an advertisement, for example) and gain insight into what appears in an image.
In Google’s demonstration, three photos are sent to the platform and the user requests that descriptive text be generated for an ad. In moments, Vertex AI delivers a robust, descriptive paragraph of photographs ready to publish.
What about copyright?
Google explains that the Vertex AI compensation commitment now also covers the use of Imagen technology as well as any future model updates. Overall, this ensures that customers are not penalized for possible copyright infringement with content created using Google’s generative AI.
