Before the first One Piece manga saw the light of day in 1997, its author Eiichiro Oda imagined various stories featuring cowboys, samurai, and even monks to explore several storylines.
All of these adventures, published between 1992 and 1996 in Weekly Jump magazine, would later be compiled into a short story collection.
In this batch of news, two of them stand out: Romance Dawn, which will be the first chapter dedicated to Luffy and his friends and monsters. And it is the latter that we will talk about here.
Eiichiro Oda tells the story of the adventures of a certain Ryuma, a samurai from the land of woe. A character that he introduced much later in One Piece (as a zombie) and that allowed him to mix the two worlds.
Almost 30 years after the story was published, Eiichiro Oda agreed to make an anime adaptation of it. Titled MONSTERS: Hell of the Flying Dragon of 103 Passions, it takes place years before Luffy’s adventures and therefore serves as a prequel to One Piece.
Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation by Eiichiro Oda tells the tale of Ryuma, a legendary swordsman who emerged from the land of Wano in one piece.

What exactly will be discussed? When a dragon’s horn with magical powers is stolen, Ryouma finds himself involved in the drama of this theft and the dragon’s devastating appearance in the city… It’s the famous E&H Production studio (behind Jujutsu Kaisen) who will be responsible. Anime director.
Monsters is therefore a mini-event for One Piece fans and platforms that have taken away the broadcast rights. ADN announced last November that it had acquired the rights to the anime, but is expected to offer it at a later date. A Netflix contact with us confirmed this The series will be released in January 2024 (The date has not been announced yet).
Even if it’s anime and not live-action, fans who discovered One Piece thanks to the Netflix adaptation should still be interested in it since it takes place in the same universe. The character Ryuma also has some points in common with Roronoa Zoro…
