Paul McCartney’s show: 5 reasons to watch it

The broadcast will take place on December 16th.

Streaming services will bring McCartney’s iconic show to Brazilians, directly from the Maracanã Stadium, starting at 9.15pm. For those who missed it or want to see it again, the presentation will be available on both platforms, for 30 days, starting from December 17th.

The show by the British singer who continues to win generations of fans wherever he goes will be the final stop in this string of more than 30 post-pandemic performances. The tour began in April 2022, in the United States, and has already touched England and Australia. To celebrate this historic broadcast taking place during the final show of the Got Back Tour, we’ve separated out five reasons why this show is a must-see on Disney+:

A show worthy of a live broadcast

On the Got Back Tour, Paul takes the stage accompanied by his band composed of Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens, Abe Laboriel Jr., Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray. At 81 and with a career spanning more than 50 years, the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, businessman, music producer, film producer and animal rights activist manages to move between the current and the nostalgic. But obviously this tour could not miss the classics of the Beatles, a band that not only marked McCartney’s musical career, but won fans globally.

The setlist of this three-hour presentation includes 39 songs and an explosion of lights, special effects and even a duet of the song I’ve Got a Feeling with John Lennon, his bandmate and iconic songwriting duo of the Beatles era . In addition to the classic songs that many people dream of hearing live, at least once in their lives, such as Hey Jude and Let It Be, the repertoire brings fans hits from Paul’s solo career such as Getting Better, Let Me Roll It, Live E Let Die, plus iconic Beatles sounds like Black Bird, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Let It Be, Get Back and more!

A long and consolidated career

Born in Liverpool, England, Paul is the closest Brazilian Beatles fans can get when it comes to live performances of the songs of one of the most famous bands to ever exist in the history of world music. Collecting 18 Grammys in his career, seven Brit Awards and even an Oscar, in 1971, for the “Best Original Score” award in the film Let It Be (1970), the artist continues to be a reference in the industry of contemporary music. Another peculiar fact about the musician’s life that many people don’t know is the fact that he was made a Knight of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997.

The Beatles never came to Brazil, but Paul did!

Many Beatles fans could never get over the fact that the British band never arrived in Brazil at the height of their success in the 60s and 70s. Formed by Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, the musical style followed rock and blues. they won fans around the world and consolidated the English band as one of the most successful groups of the rock era. Another highlight of Paul’s time with the Beatles was certainly his friendship and creative chemistry with John Lennon, becoming one of the most influential duos in history when it comes to composition. Lennon was murdered in 1980, outside his apartment in Manhattan, New York. At the time, the greatest British band of all time had already broken up – in 1970 – generating much speculation about the main reasons for the end.

But, unlike the Beatles, McCartney will complete 37 shows in Brazil at the end of the Got Back tour. The singer himself has already declared his love for the country in various presentations and interviews. He always fondly remembers his first performance here, in 1990, again at the Maracanã Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, reaching the threshold of 184 thousand tickets sold, which made the occasion enter the Guinness Book of Records as the largest number of paying spectators to see a single artist in history.

Collecting successes

With a consolidated career around the world, Paul never tires of reinventing himself, but at the same time manages to maintain his own characteristic which, consequently, is very reminiscent of the musical style of the Beatles. Over the years, numerous successful hits have conquered music charts around the world, such as Maybe I’m Amazed and Band on the Run, which was even released by his band Wings, formed by former Beatles drummer Denny Seweill , guitarist Denny Laine and his wife Linda McCartney, in 1971.

McCartney never tires of demonstrating his love for Brazil

The singer’s bond with Brazil only strengthened during his time in the country. As soon as he landed on Brazilian soil, at the beginning of December, the Englishman announced, at the last minute, an intimate performance in Brasilia, in a place called Clube do Choro, founded in 1977 and considered a point of reference for music in the city. The presentation was reserved for 400 lucky people who had the opportunity to enjoy the singer after the publication of a link for those who already had tickets for the official show at the Mané Garrincha stadium, also in Brasilia.

The culture of intimate shows is already part of Paul’s musical career, just as the Beatles performed at the Cavern Club in his hometown of Liverpool and did a last minute performance on the roof of the Apple record company in 1969. In 2016 , the singer performed a pocket show for 300 people in California, at Pappy & Harriet’s. Not to lose his tradition, in 2018, the Briton did another pocket show, but this time for customers at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms pub, in Liverpool, England.

In addition to the broadcast on Disney+, subscribers will also be able to watch the final show of the Got Back Tour via Star+, on the same day and time.
