São Paulo have had to deal with some unforeseen circumstances, but are very close to signing 22-year-old midfielder Damián Bobadilla. The agreement was delayed by obstacles, already overcome by the Italian club, which reached an agreement to purchase the player from Cerro Porteño.
Negotiations went back and forth last Thursday. Last Wednesday, Sao Paulo had all it took to acquire 80% of Bobadilla’s economic rights for 3 million dollars (about 14.8 million Brazilian reals at current prices). The following day other clubs, including Brazilian ones, showed interest in the Paraguayan.
In the rush to close the deal, the Tricolore council agreed to pay the same amount for 60% of the rights. The values and percentages were confirmed by the athlete’s agent, Julián Giménez, a ABC Radiofrom Paraguay.
The signing should take place this Friday, in digital format. Bobadilla will thus become Sao Paulo’s third reinforcement for 2024, when the team will play in the Libertadores. The contract will last four years.
He joins striker Erick, originally from Ceará, and experienced midfielder Luiz Gustavo. The young Paraguayan was one of Cerro Porteño’s flagships last season, with 12 goals in 50 games, and was also called up to his country’s Under-23 team.
The player, who stands out for his quality with the ball at his feet, is the son of Aldo Bobadilla, a historic former Cerro goalkeeper with a brief stint at Corinthians. With the signing imminent, São Paulo have cooled their talks with América-MG for the Argentine Emmanuel Martínez.
