Netflix: The sequel to Chicken Run is the perfect new family date

Twenty-five years after Chicken Run, it’s time to reunite with cinema’s funniest chickens. Chicken Run: The Nuggets Menace is the long-awaited sequel to the Aardman Animation classic, bringing to life Ginger, Rocky and even the evil Mrs. Tweed from the first opus.

In the first Chicken Run, a group of hens at Tweed Farm in Yorkshire, England live to lay enough eggs to avoid running out of pies.

Together, led by rebellious chicken Ginger (Valerie Lemercier) and aided by “rooster boy” Rocky (GĂ©rard Depardieu), they finally plan to escape.

The first Chicken Run film was directed by Peter Lord and Nick Park, co-founders of the stop-motion production studio Aardman Animation. The sequel is directed by Sam Fell, who worked on City of Mice, co-produced by Aardman.

What is it about?

Ginger miraculously escapes from Mrs. Tweed’s farm and finally finds the place of her dreams: a peaceful island, a true refuge for the whole army, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky give birth to baby Molly, Ginger’s happiness is complete.

But the rest of the continent’s chickens face a new and dire threat. This time, Ginger and her team don’t hesitate to risk their hard-won freedom to break into a dangerous castle!

With the original voices of Thandiwe Newton, Zachary Levy, Bella Ramsey…ages 7 and up.

A movie for the whole family

We probably didn’t realize we missed them so much. And happily we find Aarman chickens! There was a lot of magic in Chicken Run, which was the animation studio’s first feature film and showed that the team had the creative resources to tell a great story with lovable characters and clever humor.

And the good news: Chicken Run: The Nuggets Menace Still maintains its satirical take on escapist films, with a cast of eccentric characters and the fiery heart of its story of survival against all odds.

The characters remain as quirky and fun as ever, while the story and animation techniques take a leap forward. The technical advancement is simply mind-boggling with the amount of detail and locations presented in the film.

And the story jumps around in time, presenting futuristic technology as a series of barriers, obstacles and threats. It is also worth noting that the tone is a little more cheerful.

Yes, it’s still about characters trying to escape inevitable death and become food, but we already know they’ve done it once before. And sure enough, they’ll do it again without (too many) problems.

As for the youngest

Chicken Run: The Nuggets Menace introduces a new character: Molly (Bella Ramsey), daughter of Ginger (Tandeve Newton) and Rocky (Zachary Levy). As he reached his teenage years, he developed a genuine curiosity about the world he dreamed of exploring.

He was lured by a delivery van with a chicken sitting happily in the tray. Very curious to discover this place, Molly leaves the island one night.

Ginger, Rocky and their friends go looking for him and find him in the clutches of Dr. Fry and old enemy Mrs. Tweed at a high-tech farm. It looks like an evil castle and a den of super-spy enemies.

Instead of escaping, the gang must enter this hellish farm that plans to revolutionize the restaurant industry with a fast food concept!

There, Molly discovers a place that at first looks like a large amusement park. But he realizes that all the chickens that are present and seem to be having fun are actually under the influence of a collar that confines them.

It’s as if they’ve been lobotomized, controlling this device to move unopposed towards the machine that will turn them into nuggets…

But parents can be sure, there is nothing traumatic for the youngest. The film is full of visual gags, successful action scenes and jokes. It is enough to spend good time with your family.
