“Nameless Beauty”, “Crazy Intensity”, “Deliciously Chilling”: the best CANAL+ original creation of the year is this series!

The best of 2023. During the month of December, AlloCiné offers thematic tops based on audience ratings to highlight the best films and series of the year and suggest some sequences.

Westerns, comedies, legal dramas and two thrillers that are among the best of the year on TV: this is what Canal+ has to offer this year. Each program can boast that it is supported by French or Belgian actors (but not only) who gave their all. Here are the top 5 2023 best original creations from Canal+ according to viewers!

5th – Django 2.3/5

Set in the Wild West of the 1860s and 1870s, Django, haunted by the murder of his family eight years earlier, continues to search for his daughter, hoping she might have escaped the massacre. Finally, in New Babylon, he finds her to marry: he is surprised, but above all, he is convinced that the city is in danger. Django is adamant: he won’t risk losing his daughter again. A co-production between Sky Italia and Canal+, filmed in English and aimed at an international audience, the show deliberately echoes Sergio Corbucci’s legendary Django. Led by Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone), with animalistic charisma and quiet power, Django is a true western series that still fits the times and offers a reinterpretation of the genre. Here we are dealing with a person who is haunted. His past, a silent colossus with a gentle heart: it’s for him that the 10-episode series is worth watching – more than for his storyline, which struggles a little more to refresh the genre. The show also features international actors Noomi Rapace, Lisa Vicar. and Nicholas Pinnock.

4th – Pamela Rose, Series 2.7/5

Cad Meradi and Olivier Baru are back in Bullit and Riper’s place, and the good news is: they haven’t changed! The heroes of the film But Who Killed Pamela Rose? There are nine episodes here with a new well-crafted case to unravel. In the show, absurd humor and disturbing murders of repeated YouTubers: the tone is set. Indeed, to escape sanction by the FBI’s disciplinary committee, the two agents must return to work. But the investigation promises to be complicated, as they simultaneously try to cover up the mistake they made, which, despite themselves, led to the accidental death of the first suspect. And quickly, Jessica Carson (Shirin Boutella), their young rival at the FBI, begins to suspect them… Polished production and aesthetic images: feels like a real American soap opera. If here the parody plays on the clichés of the American series, it is not an easy way. We are having a good time and a second season is being discussed.

3rd – 66-5 3.4/5

This Canal+ original creation, halfway between The Good Wife and Engrenages – which is almost a spin-off – introduces master Alice Isaas as Roxanne, a young business lawyer at a prestigious Parisian firm who sees her life turned upside down. upside down when her husband, a partner in the firm, is accused of rape. Returning against his will to the town of his childhood, he tries to reinvent himself as a criminal lawyer in Bobin’s court. Very successful, 66-5 is a beautiful portrait of a woman, plural. In addition to the heroine, we are also interested in her best friend, mother and investigating judge, who has managed to establish herself in a male-dominated field. If it’s a little slow to get started, the series created by Anne Landui (Gearboxto be exact), co-starring Audrey Fuchs, is more and more addictive and profound throughout its episodes – and clearly fascinating due to its immersion in the legal world through 8 episodes that are at once realistic, violent and romantic. Its peculiarity: showing a different suburb, bright and far from clichés. Find success if you haven’t already.

2nd – 4/5 of silver and blood

Loosely adapted from Fabrice Arfi’s investigative book, D’argent et de Sang, it depicts the scam of the century. In France and Europe, between 2008 and 2009, billions went up in smoke in the new financial market “carbon quotas” invented to fight global warming. The culprits: crooks from Belleville and a merchant from above, pursued by an obsessive and determined investigator. Human passions then dissolve beyond mere interest. This is another original creation from the channel that you shouldn’t miss, a series of events with Vincent Lyndon, Niels Schneider and Ramsay Bedia. Both exhilarating and dizzying, the show manages to conjure up an unsettling simplicity, and that’s also one of its strengths: the clarity with which it unravels this awkwardness that might have been thought difficult. Despite some length, the stunning episodes feature twists, turns and drama. Everything is served by a top-notch actor: so we can only recommend you.

1 – The Night Laurier Gaudreault Wake Up 4.2/5

Created and directed by Xavier Dolan, The Night Laurier Gaudreault Wake Up is a small screen gem that absolutely should not be missed. In the early 1990s, Mireille, her brother Julien and their best friend Laurier formed an inseparable trio. The boys just won the provincial baseball championship and Mireille dreams of burning the boards. Who knows what the future holds for them? However, one night in October 1991, their fates were changed forever by a terrible incident and their paths diverged… Adapted from the play for his latest project, Xavier Dolan – who has since stepped away from directing – appears, notably, in their fifth collaboration with his beloved actress Anne Dorval. Before leaving the set, the Quebec filmmaker and actor offers us an intense series of 5 episodes. If he finds his favorite themes there – family, death, the search for identity and truth – he goes further than usual in terms of dark stories tortured by the past. The menu has a refreshing and heavy vibe that borders on the scary: it’s beautiful, powerful, addictive and full of twists and turns. Add to that poetic cinematography, masterful acting and excellent direction and you have Dolan’s masterpiece, one more (last?) time.

The rating consists of original CANAL+ creations released in 2023 and counts for a minimum rating of 100. Feel free to post your notes and reviews on the pages in this series (and others) and post your own top in the comments below!
