Netflix: Did you like the hero of Yu Yu Hakusho? He’s starring in another anime adaptation!

This summer, the live-action series One Piece managed to defy all odds to become a huge success with both fans of Eiichiro Oda’s manga and the general public unfamiliar with the original series.

And Netflix isn’t going to stop there, as the streaming platform released another live-action adaptation of the cult manga on December 14: Yû Yû Hakusho.

Published in the early 1990s, the manga Yû Yû Hakusho (19 volumes available from Kana) is the first work of Yoshihiro Togashi, also known for the Hunter x Hunter manga.

The story follows a young criminal who dies after sacrificing his life to save a child. In the Realm of the Dead, Yusuke is offered resurrection on the condition that he become a spirit world detective.

In this Japanese series, unlike One Piece, Takumi Kitamura plays the lead role of Yusuke Urameshi. 26 years old, Es an idol In parallel with the acting profession, he leads the career of a J-pop singer. And it was in 2021 that the actor from Tokyo got the biggest role in the cinema.

In 2021, Takumi Kitamura lent his features to the live-action adaptation of Takemichi Hanagaki’s manga Tokyo Revengers, which was not published in France, and then to its two-part sequel titled Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween (also not found here).

The Japanese actor is therefore no stranger to the world of live-action manga adaptations, as evidenced by his participation in the Yû Yû Hakusho series – one of the best-selling manga of all time (over 75 million copies in circulation).

Two roles as different as they are complementary: the role of a weak but brave time traveler in Tokyo Avengers and a fighting criminal with a big heart in Yu Yu Hakusho. And in both cases, roles that match Takumi Kitamura’s talent and charisma!
