In 2023, VW concluded nine launches focused on versions of existing models and by 2025 there will be four more
After a very modest start in a warehouse in the Ipiranga neighborhood of São Paulo (SP), on March 23, 1953, Volkswagen celebrated 70 years as a leader in the car and SUV market and vice-leader among light vehicles.
In 2023 it completed nine launches focused on versions of existing models and by 2025 there will be four more. One of these should be the Nivus GTS in 2024, which could debut with the 1.5 TSI flex engine, an evolution of the current 1.4 L engine.
This year the highlights are two electric models that mark the debut of the Brazilian branch in this market niche: the ID.4 SUV and the ID.Buzz minivan, the new electric Kombi. The restyling of the seven-seater Tiguan Allspace SUV, imported from Mexico, also makes its debut.

Citroën C3 Aircross: how it drives, how it brakes, comfort and life on board
First impressions of the ID.Buzz occurred only in a small urban section and did not indicate such vigorous accelerations, as one would expect from trams. But the instant and constant torque of 31.6 kgf·m and 204 hp ensure good responses to the accelerator, not giving the impression of a heavy (2,200 kg) or slow vehicle. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h declared in 10.2 s. The 77 kW h battery allows an average range of 337 km in the Inmetro standard.
The driving position resembles that of the original Kombi and the two front seats have two armrests each. The instrument cluster screen is just 5.3 inches. and is well positioned on the steering column, whose steering wheel is adjustable in height and distance.
The internal space stands out for its 2,989 mm wheelbase. It offers seven USB ports, above average. The side doors are electrically controlled and the trunk has an impressive capacity of 1,121 litres.
With rear-wheel drive, cornering behavior is very predictable, while the suspension equipped with adaptive shock absorbers, despite being a little noisy on uneven surfaces, presents a good balance between comfort and stability. A strong point is the silence on board thanks to the soundproof windows. The unique batch of 70 units is sold via subscriptions only.
Compared to the Tiguan, the external changes are discreet. The 2-liter TSI engine with 186 hp and 30.6 kgf m received a different calibration due to emissions that reduced power and torque, but still forms a good combination with the eight-speed automatic transmission (previously seven speed).
The declared acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9 s, suitable for the family proposal of this SUV, as well as the suspension adjustment aimed more at comfort.
When passing road bumps, the movement of the falling wheels is quite noisy. The braking system stands out compared to the competition. The lane keeping assistant is minimally intrusive and without the hassles seen on other models in different segments.
Internally good ergonomics in the adjustment of the steering wheel and driver’s seat, which have heating and ventilation. The sound insulation also stands out. The rear seat is remotely adjustable and the boot, which opens with a wave of the foot, has a reduced volume of 216 liters thanks to the third row of seats. Price: R$278,990.
