According to data from Datafolha, the majority of Rio residents supported the action
The majority of inhabitants of the city of Rio de Janeiro and the metropolitan region (57%) believe that the mega police operation against the Comando Vermelho (CV), which resulted in the death of 121 people on Tuesday 28, was a success, according to a Datafolha poll published this Saturday 1.

The assessment of the success of the police offensive was expressed by Governor Cláudio Castro (PL) the day after the operation, the deadliest in the history of the Rio de Janeiro police. He and authorities in Rio de Janeiro defended the strategy in the face of violence employed by CV criminals, who were armed with rifles and also used drones with grenades against security forces.
Some experts question the effectiveness of violent incursions into favelas, especially due to the risk it poses for residents and the police themselves (four officers died in Tuesday’s action).
Another 39% of those surveyed by Datafolha disagreed – in whole or in part – with Castro’s assessment that it was a success.
According to the survey, 48% of respondents believe that the operation was well performed. Another 21% highlighted the flaws of the action and 24% disapproved of the strategy adopted by the Military Police.
For half of those interviewed, most of the people killed were criminals. Another 31% said they believed they were all criminals, while only 4% said the minority was innocent and 1% said they were all innocent.
The Datafolha team interviewed 626 voters, on Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st. The margin of error for the total sample is plus or minus four percentage points.
