We’ve been buying fish for 27 years, thinking about this iconic line from a French movie!

Christian Clavier is one of the most popular French comic actors in cinema, as evidenced by the millions of accolades his films bring to the box office every year. He has two César nominations for the screenplay and for his role as Jacquiel in Les Visiteurs, and 5 years after the success of the first opus, he launched in a new episode of the adventures of Godfroi de Montmireil and his owner Jacquiel, the iconic copy king.

And indeed, The Visitors 2: The Corridors of Time has its share of brilliant sequences and lines that we’ve already been able to hear in real life because they’ve entered our subconscious.

In this second film, the story picks up where the first one left off, namely that Jacquiel is left in the modern era and that his descendant, Jacques-Henri Jacquard, is sent to the Middle Ages. The situation cannot continue and Godfrey (Jean Reno) returns to our time to right this wrong.

The sequence we’re interested in takes place about 10 minutes into the film, when Jacquiel and Dame Ginette are in a supermarket, where the former is caught off guard by the staff while the latter shoplifts. In this case, Godefroy’s butler grabs a huge bluefin tuna and then, watching the animal even more closely, shouts:

“That’s a beautiful fish!”

Of course, Jacqueline’s escape ends with them being kicked out of the supermarket, from which they run as fast as they can, throwing eggs at the poor director of the establishment and grabbing wheat grapes. “making bread” !

We find the line later in the film, only to impress it on the audience’s mind during the wedding scene. Jacquiel finds a wonderful piece of smoked salmon and eats it with his fingers, saying again: “It’s a good fish!” Surprised guests.

The servant even carries a huge slab of raw salmon to his car and places it on the hood, and Dame Jeanette informs him that it is now useless. This “good fish” has been heard for years after the movie was made on school playgrounds, as well as in the fish market or the fish section of the smallest mall. Clavier and Poiret won the bet! “Okay?!”
