The One Piece: Netflix announces the new anime based on the manga

One Piece will have a new anime: Netflix announced a partnership with manga creator Eiichiro Oda to produce a new animated adaptation of the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his friends called The One Piece.

The new animated series will be produced by the renowned WIT Studio, known to Japanese animation fans for productions such as Spy x Family and the first three seasons of Attack on Titan.

The anime will tell Luffy’s story from the beginning of the manga, in other words, it will be another version of the East Blue Saga, the first in the series. According to Netflix’s statement, the new adaptation “aims to give viewers a new yet familiar experience, using cutting-edge technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures.” The promise is that the new anime will be a different experience from the original series, even if it will keep the same story and characters.

There’s no release date for The One Piece yet, but Netflix says the new anime will be shown exclusively on the streaming service.

Oda’s old manga will also be adapted

In addition to recreating One Piece now also in anime, Netflix has another news for fans of Eiichiro Oda’s creations: the Monsters: The Dragon’s Curse manga, written when he was just 19 years old, will have an anime version starting in January.

Telling the story of Ryuma, a samurai in a world threatened by a dragon capable of causing great catastrophes, the anime will premiere in January 2024 – the specific date has not yet been announced.

It is worth mentioning that the live action version of One Piece has had its second season confirmed and is already in production, although there is no release date yet.
