Less hot in Porto Alegre, after the second hottest afternoon of the year


Sunday morning was the hottest of 2023 in Porto Alegre. The passage of a cold front will ease the heat in the next few days.

On Sunday, December 17, Porto Alegre did not break the historical temperature record for December, as expected. But this Sunday was very hot and the capital of Rio Grande do Sul had the second warmest afternoon of the year, so far, and the warmest morning of 2023.

Porto Alegre broke a heat record this Sunday, 17/12: the hottest dawn of the year. The minimum temperature was 24.9°C, the highest minimum temperature of 2023.

The maximum temperature this Sunday, 17/12, was 38.4°C, according to the National Institute of Meteorology. This value was measured at 3pm, but another maximum measurement will be taken at 9pm and there may be an increase in the value read at 3pm.

The record heat for the year 2023, so far, is 38.8°C, on February 13. The record for the highest temperature on a December day is 40.3°C, recorded on December 31, 2019.

The heat decreases and the rain increases in the next few days

In the next few days the temperature will begin to drop. There is no longer any expectation of records. But this Monday will be very hot, with a maximum temperature expected around 35°C.

A cold front advances over Rio Grande do Sul and will encourage the formation of heavy clouds across the state. The weather is unstable this Monday, with several rain showers and lightning expected throughout the day across the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
