Disney is working on a possible remake of the classic ’90s sci-fi series, The X-Files. According to Bloomberg, the studio is collaborating with director Ryan Coogler, known for his work on the franchises: Black Panther and Creed.
Coogler would serve as producer on the new version, but the project has not yet announced any other names, nor set a premiere date.
dossier X
The X-Files, which debuted in 1993, tells the story of FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), who work in a rogue division of the agency dedicated to unexplained cases. The agents together investigate cases that lead to alien conspiracies involving supernatural or alien events and the government.
Chris Carter created the series, which became a critical and popular success, and ran for nine seasons until 2001. Two films based on the series were released in 1998 and 2008. In 2016 and 2018, the two original protagonists starred in a reboot of the series, which lasted two seasons.
Conditions for returns
Actress Gillian Anderson, who plays Dana Scully, has already expressed interest in returning to the franchise. However, she stated that she would only agree to participate in a new project if many things had changed.
It seems like such an old idea. I did it, I did it for so many years, and it also ended in a really unfortunate way. To start this conversation, a whole new group of writers would be needed and the baton would have to be passed to make it fresh and progressive. So yes, it’s very much in the past.

David Duchovny, who brought Agent Fox Mulder to life, on the other hand, says the remake was never a possibility.
I don’t want to have to think about it because it’s not something I necessarily need in my life. For me, the X-Files that I’m involved in consists of me, Chris Carter and Gillian, so I haven’t spent time thinking about a different version of that thing and I don’t know if I will.

Disney, however, has not yet commented on the matter. The project is expected to be officially announced soon.
Where to look?
Star+ makes all X-Files productions available for streaming, while Prime Video only offers the 11 seasons of the series and not the feature films.
