Corinthians have agreed to sell striker Felipe Augusto to Cercle Brugge, from Belgium, for 3 million euros (around R$16 million). The report of Gazzetta dello Sport discovered that the decision to trade the youngster was made jointly by Timão’s new board of directors, led by Augusto Melo, and the technical committee, led by Mano Menezes.

Internally there was consensus that Felipe would not have a major draft in 2024 and that the sale would be best for both parties. Corinthians are looking for a center forward in the football market to “disturb” Yuri Alberto, who experienced a 2023 season below expectations. However, it is worth saying, Mano Menezes has the number 9 shirt and has asked the management not to sell him in the January transfer window.

In addition to the 3 million euros, Corinthians has guaranteed 20% of the added value in a future negotiation involving Felipe Augusto. All proceeds from the sale will go to the management of Augusto Melo, as learned by Gazzetta dello Sport.

Revealed in Timão’s youth categories, Felipe Augusto has accumulated 29 professional matches, six as a starter. In the 2023 season, the center forward scored two goals in 21 games played.

Felipe is another name leaving Corinthians in the midst of the club’s reformulation for the 2024 season. Timão has already announced that Fábio Santos, Gil, Renato Augusto and Giuliano will not remain in the team, and other athletes should not have their contracts extended, such as Victor Cantillo and Bruno Méndez.

At the moment only Yuri Alberto and Giovane are the team’s central forwards. Ángel Romero, used to playing on the wings, can also play the role.
