Giants Merge: Warner Bros. and Paramount Negotiate Deal

The streaming war could lead to a new merger between the market giants.

Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global have begun conversations about a future brand union. The information was initially released by Axios and then confirmed by Variety.

According to foreign sites, WBD general director David Zaslav met with Paramount general director Bob Bakish last Tuesday (19th) in New York (USA).

Zaslav has also already spoken to Shari Redstone, head of National Amusements Inc., which controls part of Paramount.

One possibility would be for Warner to acquire Paramount. Recalling that the group has already made an acquisition recently: it took Discovery Communications in 2022.

It is worth noting that the information was revealed by Axios and Variety. The two companies have not officially commented.

Why do groups study fusion?

To be able to deal with the main streaming services on the market: Netflix and Disney+.

The Max service (here in Brazil it is still called HBO Max) offers good series and films, as well as a decent sports broadcast network. Even so, it continues to lose to its competitors.

Paramount’s arrival could mean the inclusion of major franchises, such as Terminator, Transformers, Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, The Godfather, Scream and Star Trek.

Add this to Warner’s already interesting collection, which includes films from the DC Universe, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.

The acquisition would also strengthen Max’s children’s catalog, given that the current competitor owns the Nickelodeon license.

On the other hand, Paramount would benefit financially, as it has found it difficult to close business partnerships in the international market.
