VIDEO: Felipe Melo highlights Fluminense’s sense of duty: ‘We clashed with City’

Volante says that the Tricolore is moving up a level and that competing at the World Championships is a starting point for bigger flights

Midfielder Felipe Melo showed pride in what Fluminense did in the Club World Cup and throughout the season. The player met the press at Galeão airport, after the disembarkation of the delegation returning from Saudi Arabia. Felipe Melo highlighted the team’s performance, despite the 4-0 defeat against Manchester City, and declared that the club had reached a level never reached before.

– Feeling of duty fulfilled. Having placed at the level he has always deserved, putting a title that was missing and a wealth of experience on the club’s shelf. For those who know about football, up to a certain point we compared ourselves with City. Of course they are very strong, a world team, they have won quite well, but they keep their heads high. Fluminense is at a level never reached before. This is not an ending point, but rather a starting point.

Fluminense ended the season with the Campeonato Carioca and Copa Libertadores titles, an unprecedented achievement for the club. Next year the team will compete in the State Championship, the Recopa Sul-Americana against LDU, the Copa do Brasil, the Copa Libertadores and the Brasileirão.
