Netflix has added to its programming this Friday, December 22, a South Korean thriller that mixes drama and horror: The Creature of Gyeongseong.
Created by Kang Eun-kyung, renowned for writing Doctor Romantic AND What happens to my family?, and directed by Chung Dong-yoon, the series will be divided into two plot-strategic parts. The first, consisting of 7 episodes, is now available, and the second, whose premiere is scheduled for January 5, 2024, containing the three final chapters.
The narrative takes place in the dark spring of 1945, during Japan’s absolute rule over Korea. Jang Tae-sang (played by Park Seo-jun) and Yoon Chae-ok (played by Han So-hee) face a desperate struggle against the creation of a terrible creature, the result of human greed and conceived in a hospital.
The Creature from Gyeongseong promises an intense combination of story, suspense and horror, immersing audiences in a complex historical context with intriguing supernatural elements. But the question remains: is the series based on real events?
Although the plot is set in a real historical context, during the Japanese occupation of Korea in 1945and references real events of that period, the inclusion of the creature element is an imaginary elaboration in the narrative.
The series uses the historical setting as a backdrop to create a fictional plot involving cruel experiments conducted by Japanese military scientists on Korean prisoners.
The production invested significantly in high-quality visual effects to bring the creature to life and create an immersive environment for viewers.
