The first part of “Rebel Moon,” Zack Snyder’s sci-fi epic, didn’t just need to tell a story: it also needed to teach you how that universe works. The second part has no such responsibilities, which frees up time and space for epic action. And, judging by the teaser published by Netflix on Monday (25th), this is precisely what the sequel will focus on.
For those in a hurry:
The expectation is that “Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scar Marker” will be a “war-driven” epic where “everything will unfold.” At least, that’s what Tom Power wrote way back when Technological radarafter speaking with the cast and Snyder himself.
What to expect from ‘Rebel Moon: Part 2’?
In the sequel to “Rebel Moon,” Kora (Sofia Boutella) must defend the moon of Veldt from the enormous forces of Motherworld in a battle that reveals the true characters (and apparently much of the context) of the various warriors.
As Netflix says: “As the full might of the Kingdom pushes the nascent rebellion, unbreakable bonds are formed, heroes emerge, and legends are born.”
Staz Nair, who plays Tarak, told the website that the second part is very action and war-driven. “We get into some heavy emotional points that touch home and explore some dark and dramatic elements within this setting. It wasn’t something I expected, but that’s why it’s a space opera and not just a science fiction movie,” he said.
Currently, the first part of “Rebel Moon” has a rating of 24%. Rotten tomatoes. But given that most of the criticism was about plot points and sci-fi elements, the sequel’s increased emphasis on action may come as a surprise to those who found the first installment disappointing. Plus, there’s always the R-rated version that Snyder plans to release later.
