ASUS ROG Phone 8 has IP68 certification and a confirmed debut date

In a new teaser published this Wednesday (27), ASUS confirmed that the ROG Phone 8 will arrive in January with IP68 and very thin edges on the screen

In publications made on social media this Wednesday (27), the ASUS confirmed that the ROG Phone 8 will be made official in January, revealing it even more design aspects and the new features that the device will present. In addition to being the first gamer phone to have IP68 protection, the new product will have a redesigned screen with extremely thin edges, a welcome change that comes with a side effect in the audio department.

In the post made on X (old Twitter), the Taiwanese giant has revealed that the presentation of its next gaming smartphone will take place on January 8 at 8:00 pm Brasilia time. In addition to a link to receive news, the company has released a teaser video showing the front area of the phone for the first time, bringing good and bad news.

After the complete redesign shown in previous teasers, the ROG Phone 8 will give in to the look popularized by competitors and will rely on extremely thin and symmetrical edges around the display, housing the front camera in a centralized hole. The side effect of the change is that the front stereo audio system, one of the line’s biggest differentiators, has been ditched.

The launch is likely to retain stereo audio, but will use a speaker on the bottom paired with the call speaker on the top. The change is not evidence of deterioration in quality: renowned audio models, such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Maxadopt a similar scheme, but it should reduce immersion, considering that the exits have changed positioning.

ASUS also published a teaser on the Chinese social network Weibo, in which it confirms that the ROG Phone 8 will be the first gaming phone to have IP68 certification. The appearance equates the debut smartphone to traditional devices and represents a major upgrade compared to the IP54 protection of previous generations, as well as being a significant advantage over other models in the category.

The biggest change would be to the cameras, which would come with a similar set to that of the Zenfone 10 including modern technologies such as Gimbal stabilization and an unprecedented telephoto lens, finally solving one of the biggest criticisms leveled at the family.
