Netflix: What are the most watched French films on the platform in 2023?

The end of 2023 has arrived and it’s time to evaluate French productions on Netflix. In terms of cinema, six original French films have been released in the last twelve months. This figure is down slightly from 2022, which included eight releases.

Netflix newsletter and figures which takes stock of the platform’s audience every week, nevertheless highlights the huge success of one of the films: Morgan S. Dalibert’s AKA.

As the bulletin specifies, the thriller, together with Alban Lenoir, is the only French work to be ranked among the ten biggest hits of non-English language films. Fourteen days after its release, AKA was viewed by 45 million subscribers. It is far ahead of other Netflix releases from France.

That much enthusiasm bodes well for the third Lost Ball installment, still with Alban Lenoir, which began filming this December.

Two other films that fill the podium are Mélanie Laurent’s Voleuses and Le Roi des ombres with rapper Kaaris. The former had 35 million views 14 days after its release, compared to the latter’s 15.5 million.

The action film of actress and director Melanie Laurent was a huge success and held the first place in the ratings for almost three weeks. The success the feature film owes in part to its solid cast, which includes, among others, Adele Exarchopoulos and Isabelle Ajani.
