The investigation also reveals indications of money laundering and criminal association due to an alleged joint action with three other influencers. According to the police investigation to which the Estadao had access, Buzeira uses social media to organize illegal draws and lotteries, with cash prizes, which is prohibited by law.
The report contacted one of the lawyers representing Buzeira. The professional said he would talk, but he didn’t respond. In the investigation, the defense argued that “the accusations of belonging to a criminal organization and money laundering do not find any factual support in the documents”. It also rejects suspicions of money laundering “since there is no indication that the sums received by Bruno have been concealed or concealed” and because “everything constituting his assets is duly declared”.
The Civil Police of São Paulo still describes Buzeira’s modus operandi. According to the company, the influencer leads a “life of luxury” on Instagram, always acting in his own name when making “illegal draws”, with the aim of illicitly enriching himself. Additionally, police allege that the digital influencer owns businesses to “launder illegal money” acquired through sweepstakes.
In a statement, the influencer said he owns a clothing brand called “Neurose.” Furthermore, he declared that he was a partner in another company in the beauty sector. As for the draws, he reported that he has another company focused on digital marketing.
Buzeira is also suspected of having committed the crime of gang association, since, according to the police, he acted together with three other influencers. “Everyone is part of the system and to gain followers and number of bettors they tag each other in posts to appear on their respective profiles, doing business with each other, with the main aim of getting rich at the expense of illegal betting.”
Given the suspicions, the suspects were subject to a search and seizure warrant in March 2022. Police also called for the blocking of selected vehicles, bank accounts, social networks and websites. The temporary arrest of those involved was also requested. However, the Public Prosecutor expressed the need to implement additional measures, such as the violation of fiscal and banking secrecy.
The investigation is taking place at the 1st Tax Crimes Court of the Central Criminal Court of Barra Funda, in São Paulo.
