Star + has announced that it will release “Official Competition”, a new comedy that brings together Spanish stars Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas, on July 1st. The reveal of the date was accompanied by the release of the attraction’s national poster.
Presented at the Venice, Toronto and San Sebastián festivals, “Official Competition” garnered rave reviews and earned a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Written and directed by Argentines Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat (from the award-winning “The Illustrious Citizen”), the film follows three artists who can’t stand each other as they try to make a film that will leave its mark on history.
Cruz plays the director, Banderas is a Hollywood heartthrob, and Argentine Oscar Martínez (“The Illustrious Citizen”) is an award-winning stage actor who considers his co-star a ham. Before filming begins, the director needs to get these two together – and he has some tricks up his sleeve.
