The Creative Arts Emmys, a preliminary Emmy ballot dedicated to so-called “technical categories,” awarded Ed Sheeran his first Emmy on Saturday night (6/1), for best original television music of 2023.
Sheeran was honored for the song “A Beautiful Game,” featured in the third-season finale of “Ted Lasso.” The artist, who was not present in Los Angeles to accept the award, competed with songs from the series “Ginny & Georgia”, “The L Word: Generation Q”, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, another song from ” Ted Lasso” and the television movie “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”.
The award honors a song or soundtrack created specifically for a television program. Last year’s winner was Cinco Paul, who wrote original material for “Schmigadoon!”
