“Minx” is canceled again, after being saved for a second season

American pay channel Starz canceled “Minx” after saving the series and airing its second season. The acclaimed comedy series returned last July, after being canceled by HBO Max at the end of 2022.

The series, produced by Lionsgate TV, was set in 1970s Los Angeles and followed Joyce (played by Ophelia Lovibond), a young feminist who teams up with the editor of a men’s magazine (played by Jake Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women. In addition to being an actor, Jake Johnson was also a co-executive producer of the series, along with creator Ellen Rapoport (screenwriter of “Clifford, the Giant Red Dog”).

It’s worth noting that the second season had already been produced when HBO Max first canceled the attraction. These finished chapters would never have been seen if Lionsgate had not intervened. The studio that produces “Minx” also owns Starz and has moved the series to its new location. However, after the broadcast, the channel – which is ending its original productions – did not want to continue with new episodes.

“Minx” told, in a fictional way, a story with parallels to real events, using as a basis the trajectory of Viva magazine, the publisher of Penthouse. The second season showed the success of the male nudity business, bringing money, fame and temptation to the protagonists.

The first season was made available in Brazil on HBO Max, but was removed from the catalog after negotiations with Lionsgate. The new episodes were expected on Lionsgate+, but the platform was closed in the country last December.
