A feat that the Belgian director already managed to achieve with his previous film, Les Intranquilles, whose equally sensitive subject matter did not prevent it from being selected at the Cannes Film Festival and nominated for a César. In both the making and writing of this new feature film, Joachim Lafosse makes, once again, a choice of restraint and delicacy with a preference for unspoken and close-up shots of his actors’ expressive faces rather than words or camera movements.
However, it must be said that these faces are not just any faces! Crowned with four awards, including sixteen César nominations, Emmanuel DeVos and Daniel O’Teil During their enormous careers, they established themselves as two important figures of French cinema.
Using all the talent and finesse they can muster, the two actors who make up this dissonant couple allow Un Silence to reach the heights of subtlety, but also let the supporting cast shine in their turn: highlighted by tight shots.
