After this triumph, director Dean DeBlois always said that he would not make a 4th episode. “The franchise is over. The animated series is no longer running, and there are currently no plans to make a feature film. If the studio decides to make a new film, hopefully they will choose a different era and new characters.“, he told our microphone in June 2019.
Therefore, the director is very clear, there is no talk of a continuation of his trilogy. “I feel that I have reached the end of my ideas and I really want to start a new project, to do something completely different. Why not live-action cinema?”– he told us in our interview in 2019.
Dean DeBlois didn’t think he sounded so good when talking about the live-action project. However, it will not be so different from what he thought. Indeed, in February 2023, Deadline announced that new dragons were in the works. The film will be a live-action adaptation of the original work and will be directed by Dean DeBlois himself. This will be his first live action film. So far, he has only directed animated films.

In the first (memorable) sequences of the first season of The Last of Us, as Joel’s daughter (Pedro Pascal), Nico Parker will be Astrid, voiced by America Ferrera in the feature films, animated films.

Gerard Butler, who previously voiced Stoick, Harold’s father, will reprise his role in the flesh-and-blood live-action adaptation.
