In the wake of the migration of consumption towards cheaper and more economical vehicles, the production of motorcycles reached 1.57 million units in 2023, the highest volume in a decade. The budget was published on Friday 12th by Abracycle, an association that represents the car manufacturers of the industrial center of Manaus (AM), where almost all the vehicle factories are based. The entity also released projections on the sector’s performance in 2024, indicating an increase in production of 7.4%, to 1.69 million motorcycles. If confirmed, it will be the best result of the last 12 years.

In December alone, 117,900 motorcycles were produced, 38.5% more than the volumes recorded in the same month of 2022. Compared to November, there was a decrease of 10.7%.

Presenting the budget, the president of Abraciclo, Marcos Bento, underlined the sector’s commitment to exceeding expectations, despite the difficulties in receiving parts and transporting production due to the severe drought which compromised the transport of goods across the Amazon River and its tributaries in the last quarter of last year.

“This caused us a lack of components and logistical difficulties, but even so we exceeded expectations,” he commented.

Manufacturers of two-wheeled vehicles, including motorcycles, in Manaus, the largest motorcycle manufacturing center outside Asia, reported revenues of R$31 billion last year, directly employing 16,800 workers.

According to Abraciclo, the motorcycle represents the fastest growing mode of mobility in the country, Bento recalled that interest rates will continue to fall, as reported by the Central Bank, and stated that the improvement already observed in the credit context and the reduction of unemployment were a step forward. considered in the positive forecasts for the year.

According to motorcycle industry forecasts, production should return to 2012 levels this year, thanks to an expected growth of 7.5% in sales, equal to 1.7 million units, and 6.3% in exports , which should reach 35 thousand units, with an increase of 6.3%. compared to the volume recorded last year. At its peak, however, the industry produced more than 2.1 million motorcycles, a figure surpassed in 2008 and 2011.
