Tonight on TV: The ending of this film starring Gilles Lelouch may haunt you for a long time

Adieu Monsieur Haffmann immerses the audience in 1941 Paris. Francois Mercier (Gilles Lelouch) is an ordinary man who only aspires to start a family with the woman he loves, Blanche (Sarah Giraudeau). He is also an employee of a talented jeweler, Mr. Huffman (Daniel Auteuil). But in the face of German occupation, the two men will have no choice but to make an agreement, the consequences of which, over the course of months, will disrupt the fortunes of our three characters.

Intense and moving behind closed doors, masterfully performed by the trio Gilles Lelouch, Daniel O’Teil and Sarah Giraudhistorical drama Goodbye Mr. Huffman is an adaptation of Jean-Philippe Daguerre’s play, which won 4 Molières in 2018. The film was a huge success with over 746,000 viewers in theaters.

Director Fred Cavae and Jean-Philippe Daguerre have been friends for over twenty years. Kawae, who wanted to portray collaborators during the occupation, took liberties with the piece. “The text was really great, but I wanted to take it somewhere else. What Jean-Philippe allowed me, he offered me all the freedom possible.”says the director. “So I kept the starting point of Farewell Mr. Huffman and made the characters develop differently, especially François.”

Before Gilles Lelouch we find Daniel Auteil. Fred Kawae immediately thought of the latter. “Something in cinema fascinates me, it is the meeting of movie “monsters”.The director is delighted. “And to be honest, Daniel is one of the authorities! The meeting of these two, at the top of their generation, fascinated me. Besides, Daniel was the senior, their hierarchical relationship formed naturally.”

Tonight on France 2 at 21:10.
