According to Senator Jaques Wagner, a decision on the government’s provisional measure should be taken only after the resumption of the parliamentary recess in February
BRASÍLIA – The head of government Senate, Jacques Wagner (PT-BA), declared on Monday 15th, after the meeting with the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) and with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddadthan a decision on the provisional measure of payroll reimbursement He is expected to be released only after the parliamentary recess.
Wagner argued that Haddad has yet to speak to the president of Room, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), on the topic, since this is a proposal that will have to pass through both houses of the Legislature.
“It is a composition with the two Chambers, it (Haddad) We need to talk to both houses,” he said.
According to Wagner, “like the nineteen (so that the effects of the provisional measure come into force)any decisions are expected to be made only when Congress resumes work in February.
When asked about the possibility that the President of the Congress would return the provisional measure to the Presidency of the Republic, he reiterated that “there is no such hypothesis” and that this alternative “is not on the menu” of possible solutions.
Wagner said he could not provide details on the ongoing negotiations between the government and the congressional leadership so as not to hinder a possible agreement between the parties.
Haddad and Wagner met with Pacheco to discuss the congressman’s reimbursement and seek a solution to the stopgap measure, which has drawn anger from lawmakers since the last week of 2023, when the law was signed.
Members of the opposition and the government base have called for Pacheco to return the deputy to the Presidency of the Republic, which is the prerogative of the president of the Senate. This alternative, however, would displease the government.
Last week, Pacheco said he would make a decision before the end of the break, also in January. The allies of the President of the Senate, however, recognized the Station/Broadcast that the negotiations should continue in the next few days and that it would not be unlikely that the final decision could arrive only after the resumption of the work of Congress.
