In a press conference held this Tuesday (16), the president of Palmeiras, Leila Pereira, confirmed that the club has renewed the contract with Abel Ferreira. The coach had a contract until the end of 2024, but his contract will now expire in December 2025.
“This successful management is based on professional and transparent work, with the appreciation of professionals and continuity. Many journalists and fans ask me about signings and my objective has always been to retain professionals who, over all these years, have shown stability in terms of performance on the pitch. The biggest reinforcement of Palmeiras is this. Believing in the professionals who are working. I would like to inform you that we have renewed the contract with our coach Abel Ferreira until December 2025”, said Leila Pereira, which continues.
“As you know, it was my wish to keep this winning coach with us for such a long time and it is great news for our fans, for our institution and for Abel and his coaching staff. I am sure he is very happy, he believes in the continuation project and we will remain strong, always fighting for as many titles as possible.”
The coach had given indications that he might leave Palmeiras after winning the Brazilian title in 2023, saying he was tired of the routine of Brazilian football. However, the coach was keen to compete in the new Club World Cup, in 2025, in which Verdão is ranked. The trophy is the only one Abel is missing at Alviverde.

At Palmeiras, the coach works with assistants João Martins, Carlos Martinho, Vitor Castanheira and Tiago Costa. In this sense, to date, there have been 253 matches (145 wins, 61 draws and 47 defeats) and nine titles won. Finally, Abel Ferreira is close to equaling Oswaldo Brandão and becoming the coach with the most titles of the Sao Paulo club: ten. In 2024, the first cup in which they will play this season will be on February 4, against San Paolo, in the Super Cup.
