To see at the cinema: Le Voyage en pajamas… Pascal Thomas returns with a nostalgic road movie

Director Pascal Thomas returns five years after his last feature, Because of Girls…?, with Le Voyage en Pajamas.

The film tells the story of Victor (Alexandre Lafaure), a literature professor in his fifties, on vacation, who allows his partner Anna (Barbara Schultz) to live with the wind, who is already getting tired. In this road movie, in the form of a sentimental chronicle, which is at once burlesque and melancholy, he visits the places of his past. He will find “what has become” of his friends. He will especially meet his former companions. Everyone regrets him, but everyone also has something to blame: perhaps because they loved this creature so lovely, dreamy, unpredictable, but above all incomprehensible…

For his 24th feature film, the filmmaker asked already familiar actors. non professional actor Alexander Lafauriwho plays the lead role, has already played small roles in several films of the filmmaker.

Pascal Thomas says of him in the press kit: “Every time he was very accurate and made his partners happy. He was once again unanimous in the team. In addition, Alexander has something that is dramatically missing among actors in the cinema: a very beautiful tone of voice and phrases that everyone understands, even when he speaks in a low voice.

Dedicated director, famous supporting roles

The actor shares the score here with actors already seen in the French director’s previous works such as Barbara Schultz, Hippolyte Girardeau, Pierre Ardit and Louis-Do de Lenquesaing. Pascal Thomas comments:There is often a lot of gossip in my films, but in reality I am a faithful director as much as possible. For example, Barbara Schultz, who plays Victor’s (unfaithful) wife here, started with me in commercials. We will never lose each other.”

Constance Labbe, Lolita Schama, Anoushka Delon, Emmanuelle Bouaziz, Irene Jacob, Annie Duper and Christian Vadim also star.

Where was the movie filmed?

In Pajama tripVictor finds himself alone in his pajamas, without a vehicle. The filmmaker explains:As it happens in life, everything starts by chance… In the early morning, this professor was dragged out of bed by his wife to accompany him to the airport. When he doesn’t have time to get dressed, he wears a raincoat over his pajamas. At the airport bar, he noticed that his wife took off with the car and house keys.

The meeting at this bar takes us on a walk through the region he traveled to in his youth to see his old lovers. A way for him to redo his “bidding map”.

The feature film was shot in Sartre, the region where the feature film producer Eric Langlois lives. Pascal Thomas always wanted to represent the French countryside and its surroundings on screen. The director noted and filmed it from the beginning, which made it stand out from the Parisian cinema.

He explains: “Almost all my comedies were shot in Poitou, where I was born. Because my films have been widely distributed abroad, it is amusing to me to think that this little corner of France, so preserved, is now known all over the world.”
