MP Carlos Jordy (PL/RJ) associated Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, with a “dictatorship” on the morning of this Thursday 18th, after being subjected to searches by the Federal Police in phase 24 of the Operation Lesa Pátria – targeting the alleged planning, financing and incitement of the January 8 acts and the anti-democratic episodes that preceded the coup attempt.
In a video released on social media shortly after the PF had left his residence, Jordy says he was woken up by the officers ‘without knowing’ the reason for the searches. “What we are experiencing is incredible. The search and seizure warrant, decided by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, is the true confirmation that we are experiencing a dictatorship”, he stated.
The parliamentarian reported that he addressed the police in the following way: “First you went to the home of corrupt politicians, who had investigations for corruption, and today you go there because of the determination of a person who thinks he owns Brazil and wants to persecute his opponents with this investigation,” referring to the STF minister.
“The dictatorship we live in Brazil is deplorable,” he repeated.
The searches of the addresses linked to the deputy were apparently motivated by messages intercepted and exchanged with a group of scammers from Rio, investigators underline. Operation Lesa Pátria is a permanent PF action that investigates coup acts.
The deputy denied having incited the 8 January and the groups of Bolsonarists camped in front of the army barracks after the defeat of the former president in the 2022 elections. “I have never supported him, even if the people had every right to demonstrate against the elected government,” he noted.
Jordy classified the search he underwent as “totally arbitrary”. “There is no article that can be directed against me or that justifies this authoritarian search and seizure measure,” he said. “It’s a joke,” he continued, referring to his involvement in Lesa Pátria.
The MP also linked the PF’s offensive to an attempt to “persecute opponents”. He recalled that he is a pre-candidate for mayor of Niterói. In his assessment, this morning’s operation has a “totalitarian bias, intimidation, without legal support.”
