From January 17th to 31st, Godzilla Minus One will invade French screens! After grossing $100 million internationally and becoming a surprise success at the end of 2023, Titan is coming to Europe in two weeks!
Takashi Yamazaki’s film has already been released for two days in France, on December 7 and 8. Faced with unprecedented enthusiasm, Piece of Magic’s distributor decided to offer it more exposure.
The first audience was won by this new work, in which the famous Japanese kaiju? With a score of 4.3 out of 5 (391 ratings average), Godzilla Minus One is the best feature film in the franchise according to AlloCiné’s ratings!
What do viewers think?
According to Mikiki95, “The Americans are mocked on every level (budget, story, emotions, art direction). Finally, a real nuclear explosion on screen that leaves us glued to our seats. With only a 15 million budget!”
Best Godzilla?
Jank H. did not shy away from pleasure either. “I’m one of the lucky ones who got to see it in 4DX, and what can I say other than it was a great moment in my life as a moviegoer. It was an incredible 4DX movie and probably the best Godzilla ever.”
Naughty Dog, on the other hand, gives the film a 3.5 rating and praises it. “It’s a really good opus, but it’s not about genius Shin Godzilla In terms of a creepy/metaphorical/philosophical representation of the King of the Monsters. Maybe I’m missing some sort of monolithic hero (but with an actual journey) and less massive destruction than I expected. “
On the other hand, for Joe Dredd, Godzilla is minus one “Pure masterpiece! Everything is sophisticated, intelligent and sensitive. The giant lizard is ultimately just an alibi for a film about the absurdity of war, reconstruction and the power of life. Brilliant!”
Traumatic and scary?
According to Schick, who rates Minus One 4 out of 5 stars “A film that lives up to its reputation. The return of the real Godzilla, traumatic, scary, terrifying. A masterful film with its oppressive atmosphere and epic action sequences. A treat.”
Fraser also highly praised Takashi Yamazaki’s feature film. “It’s a very good movie, this Godzilla, I didn’t expect to like it so much, especially such an advanced production with a budget of 15 million! The art is great, I take my hat off, the script is on point and we are tense every time. The monster appears.”
Is it a very classic scenario?
Despite the majority of positive reviews, some viewers weren’t as convinced as others. “Unfortunately, director Takashi Yamazaki has no ambitions other than to lazily rest on the codes of the 70-year-old saga.”
Minus One stupidly follows the classic script, a kind of Japanese melodrama with a Netflix twist, peppered with action scenes seen and rewatched. The film does not invent anything, neither the monster nor the genre.Claimed by Flamme-010 who still rates this Godzilla 3.5 out of 5.
Unjustified madness?
Gultar Barbaros also brings some nuances that condemn unwarranted enthusiasm. “I really don’t understand the extreme enthusiasm for this movie. The plot is post-apocalyptic and the acting is above average, pulling us out of the apocalyptic scenes.
On the other hand, a big positive point about the visuals of Godzilla’s gigantism; It’s one of those rare monster movies where we have this effect of the creature’s gigantism, which makes it all the more outrageous. In short, it’s a decent movie, but one that doesn’t deserve all the media hype.”
You have two weeks to make up your own mind about the movie. Godzilla Minus One will be in French cinemas from January 17th to 31st.
