President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he will have the “great pleasure” of meeting with Congressional leaders to explain the R$5.6 billion veto on the Commission’s amendments to the Annual Budget Law (LOA), sanctioned on Monday 22 fair.
“Yesterday (Monday) I had to veto the Budget, I vetoed R$5.6 billion. And I have the greatest pleasure to gather the leaders, talk to the leaders and explain why the veto was placed” , the president said in an interview on the program ” Bom Dia com Mário Kertész”, from Radio Metropoli of Salvador this Tuesday, 23.
Lula said the 2024 budget is created “with possible conditions”, citing greater investments in health and education.
On the other hand, the R$4.9 billion value of the electoral fund for municipal campaigns, approved by Congress last December, was maintained in the 2024 budget.
OR Station/Broadcast announced on Friday (19) that a veto of at least R$5.5 billion was expected out of the total R$16.7 billion allocated for Commission amendments. The deadline to approve the Budget expired on Monday.
The cut in the so-called fee amendments was necessary due to the difference between the estimated and realized HICP: 2023 inflation closed at 4.62%, but the fees were calculated on the basis of an expected increase of 4 ,85%.
These amendments are considered the “heirs” of the so-called secret budget – extinguished by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in 2022 – because they also follow the logic of distribution according to the interests of the leaders of the House and Senate.
