Who could have predicted that a man who was spotted in Splash and waited until 1988 to see his big leap to fame with the comedy Big would have such a remarkable career?
An actor adored by the public, Tom Hanks’ strength is his great versatility, which has allowed him to play roles at times on the opposite spectrum. He won his first Academy Award for Best Actor in 1993 for his portrayal of a gay AIDS lawyer in Philadelphia, earning him acclaim from the public and his peers.
He will receive a new statue the following year for his performance in Forrest Gump – an extremely rare privilege, held before him only by the great American actor Spencer Tracy.
From the unforgettable role of Captain Miller in Saving Ryan, to Apollo 13 with Ron Howard, Green Line, Alone in the World and losing 24 kg for his role, or numerous collaborations with Spielberg, Paul Greengrass. And Wes Anderson, to name just a very few credits, Tom Hanks had nothing to prove for quite some time.

With such an eclectic range of roles, what was the most challenging for him? The actor’s answer is not a priori obvious: it is his work – fantastic here too – on his voice for Woody’s character from the first part of the Toy Story saga.
The actor told an anecdoteA long interview which he awarded to journalist Graham Bensinger in August 2022 as he continued his career. “As an actor, I would say the hardest physical work I’ve ever done was recording these movies. You don’t have a suit to hide.
You don’t have an animation that gives substance to your emotions. You have to stay locked in the booth, at the microphone, and use only your imagination and voice to get there. And I think I shot half of all the Toy Story movies with my eyes closed.”
However, she’s so skilled at the exercise that it became necessary for her to revamp her vocal performance for the upcoming Toy Story 5!
