‘The best person I ever filmed with’: Matt Damon is full of praise for the late actor, but still refused to do a movie with him

Ever since he made his screen debut 36 years ago in Mystic Pizza, Matt Damon has had the opportunity to meet and square off with famous co-stars, be it Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney or Robin Williams. Although these exact statements were made several years ago, Damon has since repeated them in a similar vein several times, such as in an interview with GQ Magazine in 2016 while promoting the new Jason Bourne installment.

A huge missed opportunity

Despite such affection for his colleague, Matt Damon passed up the opportunity to work with him again on The Dark Knight, which earned Ledger a posthumous Oscar for his extraordinary portrayal of the Joker.

Damon was actually offered the role of prosecutor Harvey Dent in Nolan’s film, but turned it down for scheduling reasons as he had a much bigger role to play in another film.

He explained this in an episode of the podcast happy sad confused in 2023. “Well, I was offered a small role in The Dark Knight… It wasn’t Heath or Christian… There was another big movie, another big role that I was doing that made me say, ‘I can’t play Harvey Dent, it’s relatively It’s a small role.”
