Ever since he made his screen debut 36 years ago in Mystic Pizza, Matt Damon has had the opportunity to meet and square off with famous co-stars, be it Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney or Robin Williams. Important meetings, to which should be added Heath Ledger, with whom in 2005 in front of Terry Gilliam’s camera, he filmed the Brothers Grimm.
Although the film received very mixed reviews at the time, in addition to being severely punished at the box office with over $105 million on an already high budget of $88 million, Matt Damon still looks back on his collaboration fondly. Ledger, who died three years after the film’s release.
“Something I’ll never get over…”
“I’m not being hyperbolic when I say this, but he’s the best actor I’ve ever worked with (…)” Damon trusted A Video interview ( with the help of FandomWire), produced some time after Ledger’s death.
“I don’t know what to say about it … it’s just horrible and it’s something I’ll never get over and I don’t think anyone who knows him ever will. C “He’s a really, really special guy and I think for the people who knew him, He was a man whose light was too bright for this world.”
Although these exact statements were made several years ago, Damon has since repeated them in a similar vein several times, such as in an interview with GQ Magazine in 2016 while promoting the new Jason Bourne installment.
A huge missed opportunity
Despite such affection for his colleague, Matt Damon passed up the opportunity to work with him again on The Dark Knight, which earned Ledger a posthumous Oscar for his extraordinary portrayal of the Joker.
Damon was actually offered the role of prosecutor Harvey Dent in Nolan’s film, but turned it down for scheduling reasons as he had a much bigger role to play in another film.
He explained this in an episode of the podcast happy sad confused in 2023. “Well, I was offered a small role in The Dark Knight… It wasn’t Heath or Christian… There was another big movie, another big role that I was doing that made me say, ‘I can’t play Harvey Dent, it’s relatively It’s a small role.”
The actor does not specify which film he is talking about. Still, he still avoided luck with Nolan after he found the filmmaker on Interstellar a few years later. As for Harvey Dent, he will eventually be played by Aaron Eckhart, who is absolutely perfect in the role.
