Where we’re talking about Christopher Nolan again… but not for Oppenheimer. Before the English director attends the Césars, where he will receive an honorary trophy and compete in the best foreign language film category for his latest opus, his previous film will return to American theaters from February 23 to March 1, before hitting the road. For a sequel to Dune.

Released in France in August 2020, Tenet was one of the emblematic Covid films for several reasons. Because it was one of the events when the theaters reopened, even if the box office results ($365.3 million worldwide) suffered due to health conditions.

Warner and Nolan: Reconciliation?

Then, a few months later, when Christopher Nolan left Warner, with whom he had worked since 2002 from Insomnia, in response to the studio’s strategy to release each of the 2021 films in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time, again due to the pandemic. So Universal picked up its next project, Oppenheimer, which is now the next Oscar favorite.

Is this Tenet re-release an attempt by Warner to mend things with the author of the Dark Knight Trilogy, a huge defender of cinema (as well as Denis Villeneuve, who signed both Dune opuses. Same studio)? By offering him that pass through American IMAX theaters that he was deprived of four years ago?

Is Tenet back on French screens?

While waiting to know the results of this maneuver, only Americans will be able to (re)discover in the cinema this complex sci-fi film amid the manipulation of time that divides its audience (fascinating for some, too complicated for others). We were contacted by Warner’s French branch, who replied that this release was not on the agenda in France.

But Christopher Nolan’s eleventh feature, starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debic and Kenneth Branagh and winning an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, is available on Netflix here.
