Plus belle la vie: the series’ audience is at its lowest since its launch, should we really be complaining?

After an absence of just over a year, Plus belle la vie is back on TV on Monday 8th January on TF1. The oldest series on French television has managed to find its audience since its launch, with almost 2.72 million viewers flocking to their screens in the first week, or 27.8% of the public aged four and over and (4+) and women responsible for buying under 50 41.0% (FRDA-50).

The exceptional figures are well above average for the timeslot, which usually ranges between 1.99 and 2.05 million viewers as of 2023 figures. Unfortunately, it seems that this trend has not been confirmed over time.

The audience is shrinking

Since its launch, the audience for Plus belle la vie, even plus belle, has continued to decline. This Tuesday, January 23, they even fell short of the 2 million viewer mark.

Episode 12 attracted just 1.89 million viewers according to Médiamétrie, or 22.4% of the four-and-over (4+) public and 37.5% of the FRDA-50. With these figures, only one question remains, should we worry about the future of Plus belle la vie, even plus belle on TF1?

Is a more beautiful life at risk?

If the audience for Plus belle la vie, even plus belle, is indeed declining, it absolutely does not mean that the future of the series is in the hot seat.

Since its inception, the series has achieved very good buy scores among women under 50, a desirable target for advertisers. In comparison, the show “It starts today”, broadcast in the same time slot, accounted for only 7.3% of FRDA-50.

Another data to consider, Plus belle la vie, encore plus belle reaches part of its audience on the TF1+ platform, released on the same day as the series. Although the channel did not disclose exact figures, the daily soap opera has been at the top of the most-watched programs since its inception, ahead of Star Academy, Here Everything Begins and Tomorrow Belongs to Us.

It is therefore possible that, as TF1 expected, Plus belle la vie, encore plus belle will be widely viewed on TF1+. So don’t panic fans of the series, Thomas, Barbara, Ariane and others are not ready to disappear from your TV screens.

Find a more beautiful life, even more beautiful Monday to Friday at 13:40 on TF1. Episodes are available to preview on the TF1+ platform.
