At Santos, Carille puts his good record to the test against Palmeiras

Peixe is unbeaten this season and aims to break the Allianz Parque taboo

In a new reality, Santos will face its first classic of the season this Sunday (28), against Palmeiras, at Allianz Parque, in the third round of the Paulistão. President Marcelo Teixeira wants to improve Peixe’s image against their Sao Paulo rivals and is betting on coach Fábio Carille’s good record to defeat Abel Ferreira’s team.

Carille has already played ten matches against Palmeiras and boasts seven wins, one draw and only two defeats. One of the negative results was in the coach’s first stint at Peixe, in the Brasileirão 2021, when Rony and Raphael Veiga scored the goals for Abel Ferreira’s team.

As well as trying to break a seven-year taboo at Allianz Parque, Carille is on a mission to improve Santos’ record in the classics. Last season, Peixe had a success rate of 25% against Corinthians, Palmeiras and São Paulo, recording five defeats, three draws and just one win against rivals São Paulo. During the three years in which Peixe had Andrés Rueda as president, the club’s success in the classics was 29%.

The Saudade classic can only have a chapter this season, considering that Santos is in Serie B and without a place in the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores. Therefore, Peixe would only face Santos and Palmeiras again if the clubs met in the Paulistão knockout stage.
