He set Miami on fire in the 1970s. How did Griselda Blanco become one of the biggest drug dealers of her time? That’s the question answered by a new Netflix series from the creators of Narcos.
In the 6 episodes it contains, we discover how she managed to establish her trafficking in the United States and find her place – very often by force – in the world of men.
With a 3.7/5 rating so far – which is lower than Narcos – Griselda comes out with flying colors, thanks in particular to Sofia Vergara’s performance. The former Modern Family star transformed herself for the occasion.
For his first dramatic role, he convinced a large number of subscribers, if we believe the first opinions visible on the AlloCiné profile:
“The series is driven by the exceptional performance of Sofia Vergara, who plays Griselda Blanco with obvious conviction and charisma. She manages to make her character both charming and repulsive and makes us wonder how this woman could become one of the most feared figures in organized crime. “ (Harry 6489)
“A good series whose big flaw is still giving glamor to a terrible character. Try as the actress might, she can’t convey the cynicism and cruelty of the real Griselda Blanco.” (Gerard Deltaille)
“Not since Narcos have we seen such an impactful series, Griselda immerses us in the ruthless world of drug dealers, a must-see!” (Samuel Mathieu)
“It is very interesting to delve into the world of drug dealers in the 80s, when we were lucky not to delve into it, and even if the series is fictional and does not reflect 100% the life of Madrina Blanco. (Joe 75)
“Sensitive souls beware, the series does not shy away from very realistic depictions of murder.” (Laurent Gay)
“Watch out great series!!.. Reminds us of Narcos (and that’s a compliment…) Ultra well done 70s/80s atmosphere (wonder how they do the exteriors etc.. .) Even the grain of the image is from the period..
Then there’s the funky, disco soundtrack…just brilliant (which might make you think of Snowfall or the movie Infiltrator). And then this atmosphere… I really like these stories of gangs, Colombian, Mexican cartels.” (Levendéen85)
The Griselda series really holds its own in telling the life story of a drug baroness. Also don’t expect a purely historical treatment of the character like in Narcos. The screenwriters actually take some liberties and leave out important elements of his life, as this expert reveals in our interview.
And what do you think about it?
