This adaptation of Simon McQuoid’s video game series of the same name is a reinvention of the Mortal Kombat universe on the big screen, with the idea of renewing the franchise in cinema with relative success.
Even if the simultaneous release in theaters and platforms in the United States was a false good idea from Warner and Max, this Mortal Kombat convinced a certain part of the public thanks to its respect for the world of video games and a good dose of it. The violence is fatal in the fight scenes.

It follows Cole Young (Lewis Tan), a failed martial arts fighter who is hunted by Lin Kuei Clan assassin Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim). To protect his family, he goes in search of warriors who have been chosen to protect the Earth Kingdom in a battle between them and otherworldly forces.
In his quest, he learns that he is actually a direct descendant of Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada), a ghost of the Nether Realm that Sub-Zero killed earlier.
Mythical figures from the Mortal Kombat universe also join the adventure, such as Liu Kang (Luddy Lin), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), and Kano (Josh Lawson).
