You don’t have to be an expert on Japanese animation to have heard of Demon Slayer. As of 2019, the animated adaptation of Koyoharu Gotōge’s manga has achieved considerable success with the public, as evidenced by its audience rating on AlloCiné of 4.4 out of 5 stars (out of 2,101 total votes).
Demon Slayer follows the story of Tanjiro Kamado in a fantasy world inspired by the Taisho era (early 20th century) Japan. The apprentice demon slayer will do whatever it takes to restore his older sister Nezuko to her original form after being transformed into a demon after being attacked by a creature.
Appreciated by fans for both the richness of the story and the depth of the characters, Demon Slayer can also rely on the high-quality animation produced by the Ufotable studio.
The biggest hit of all time in Japan
The series is already being made into a movie due out in late 2020 with Demon Slayer: The Infinity Train. An unprecedented triumph when it was released in Japan, the feature film set an all-time record. At the Japanese box office, more than 26 million tickets were sold. In France, the film attracted more than 700,000 viewers in cinemas.
Three seasons of the animated series were released, while the manga edition (available from Panini Publications) ended in 2020 after the twenty-third volume. The series’ popularity has also spawned countless spin-off products, including a video game called Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles.
The first two seasons of the animated series Demon Slayer will leave the Prime Video catalog on February 12.
