Why does buying the iPhone 11 make no sense in 2024?

Apple mobile phone launched in 2019, the iPhone 11 is no longer a good option to buy a new one; see the alternatives

Launched in 2019, the iPhone11 It still attracts attention because it’s a cell phone Apple which continues to provide a good experience. For many people, in fact, it seems to be a good option for a cheap smartphone from Apple. But does it still make sense to buy the device today?

Actually no. And in the next paragraphs I will explain the reasons why the iPhone 11 is no longer a good option in 2024. And of course I will also recommend two great alternatives to anyone who is thinking of buying the 2019 Apple cell phone.

Important features are missing

The main reason why we no longer recommend the iPhone 11 is the lack of some important features for a smartphone in 2024. The iPhone 11 is the last Apple phone to have an IPS LCD screen (not counting the SE). In 2019, when it arrived on the market, there was already a lot of pressure on Apple to change the technology from panel to OLED. In other words, it was already launched with a screen that was considered obsolete at the time.

Another technology that Apple owed four years ago was 5G connectivity. It’s true that in 2019 the new generation of mobile broadband was still in its infancy, but there were already countries where it was available. In other words, another feature that was missing from the iPhone 11.

Here it is good to remember that, being a high-end mobile phone, the iPhone (in general) needs to bring the main technologies with it. After all, this is a smartphone made to last many years in the user’s hands. A screen with a panel considered obsolete and the absence of a technology that became important the following year are Apple’s failures.

A third missing feature is MagSafe. It revolutionized Apple’s wireless charging, but only came to the iPhone 12. Without that functionality, the iPhone 11 can only reach a maximum of 7.5W when charging by induction. MagSafe can double up to 15W, thanks to perfect magnetic alignment. In addition to making wireless charging better and more convenient, MagSafe opens up a wide range of accessory possibilities that aren’t available for iPhone 11.

The best alternatives

Of course, it makes no sense for me to simply say that the iPhone 11 no longer makes sense as a new cell phone nowadays. And I have two alternatives, one even cheaper and the other with all the features that the 2019 model lacks. And they are both Apple phones.

The most important thing is the iPhone SE 3rd generation, which has 5G and MagSafe. but it owes to the OLED screen, since it also has an IPS LCD panel. And it doesn’t have two cameras, i.e. it doesn’t offer the ultra-angle camera, present on other models. However, it costs around R$2,200, while the iPhone 11 costs around R$2,400.

Already the iPhone12 it is complete, including 5G, MagSafe and OLED screen. But its price is significantly higher, reaching almost R$3,300. For a model with 64 GB of internal storage, the same starting capacity as the SE and 11.

Additionally, the iPhone 12 has the Apple A14 Bionic chip, which is more powerful than the A13 Bionic found in the iPhone 11. The third-generation iPhone SE is even faster, with the A15 Bionic. And they all have 12MP cameras, Apple’s standard photo resolution for many years.

When will production of the iPhone 11 be discontinued?

The iPhone 11 is already discontinued, in fact. The model stopped being produced at the end of 2022, when the iPhone14 arrived on the market. Apple currently discontinues the base model of its phone three years after launch. The 11th is from 2019, so new units are no longer being produced.

However, you can still find the iPhone 11 packaged in Brazilian stores. This happens due to excess inventory, i.e. units purchased by stores during 2022 that were not sold. When supplies get close to running out, the price may increase.

Is the iPhone 11 still receiving updates?

The iPhone 11 is expected to stop receiving new OS versions this year or in 2025. In other words, it will still receive iOS 17, which is expected to be released in the next few months, and iOS 18. But it probably won’t be updated to iOS 19 Therefore, the 2019 model is expected to receive new versions of the system by 2025.

At the end of 2022, Apple stopped updating the iPhone 7 line. The company has already announced that iPhone , in 2024.
